What is ‘Inburgering’ ?

Literally translated, ‘inburgering’ means naturalisation.

More comprehensively, ‘inburgering’ can be defined as a specific, coached and purposefully guided form of social integration of aliens, immigrants, asylum seekers and integration of those foreigners, who pursue family reunification in The Netherlands.

‘Inburgerings’-efforts are closely connected with the ambition to ensure that both newcomers and the hosting society will take pains in reaching a point where immigrants will eventually conquer a fair position in Dutch society.

The new Dutch government (2007) stresses the importance of social cohesion, much more than the importance of only the individual, which was common in earlier decades. Nowadays, the focus has shifted from individualistic thinking towards more unity and social responsibility. Holland is rapidly changing in that sense.

True integration is only possible if the foreigner speaks and understands Dutch well.

Singaporeans who are planning to move to The Netherlands in time to come can anticipate this reality by signing up with us for our professional Naturalisation course.
